If Death Is a Program, It Can Be Edited

Programmed cell death is not optional biology. It is a sophisticated, layered system of pathways the body uses to terminate cells under specific conditions. When those pathways misfire — when good cells die that should not, when bad cells survive that should not, when tissues age because their cells cannot be cleanly replaced — the result is much of what we call disease.
